K-State Equestrian Finishes Tied for First at SMS Invite


 

 
 
Springfield, Mo.-The Kansas State Wildcat western equestrian team finished its first competition of the season in a first-place tie with Black Hawk College (Ill.) after a strong second-day showing at the Southwest Missouri State Invitational. K-State finished the competition with six individual titles and six second-place finishes.

Trailing Black Hawk College after the first day of competition, the Wildcats rallied to force a tie after the second day of the show. K-State was led by Erin Peery who finished with two individual titles, winning the Open Section I and Open Reining Section II titles.

Other individual winners for the Wildcats included Rachel Etkin (Beginner Section I), Andrea Wosel (Intermediate II), Dehila Burdan (Advanced Section II) and Heather Zsamba (Advanced Section I).

K-State was also aided with six second-place finishes, including Margaret Lewis, who placed in the Intermediate I section, and Melissa Becking, who placed second in the Advanced II section.

Peery finished as the high-point rider on the second day of the competition while Brandi Vogel was the reserved high-point rider for the Wildcats.

The Kansas State equestrian team will return to action on October 24, when the team travels to Carbondale, Ill., to participate in the Southern Illinois University Invitational.
