Equestrian Team Heads to Iowa State
Oct. 3, 2002 Manhattan, Kan. - The Kansas State Western equestrian team is preparing for two shows at Iowa State this coming weekend. On Saturday, the show begins at 1 p.m. and on Sunday at 9 a.m. This will be the second road trip for the Western team this season. "This weekend we have a good chance of being able to qualify many of our women for postseason competition," head coach Lindsay Breidenthal said. "We have been working hard in practice to do the little things right." For a rider to qualify for postseason competition, she must "point-up" from her current division. The first level of postseason compeition is regionals, to be eligible she must earn 35 points throughout the year. If a rider is in the open division she must only earn 28 points. Points from the previous year carry over, unless she is an open division rider. The top three competitors at regional competition go on to zone competition. The top two in zone competition qualify for nationals. Senior Amber Fox needs eight points to point-up to intermediate I. Juniors Megan Hemberger and Beverly Wilson need five and three points respectively to move into advanced I. Junior Abby Oldricht and senior Sarah Pittenger both need seven points to be eligable for open competition. Seniors Jessie Baldwin, Beth Jones and Erin Rees qualified for Region 2 Competition at SW Missouri State shows Sept. 21-22. The Region 2 event will be held Mar. 9 at Black Hawk CC in Kewanee, Ill -ksu- |
