Rue, Pfister place first at Regional Championships
March 3, 2001 COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Twelve members of the Kansas State women's equestrian team competed at Texas A&M University today in the Regional Championships. The Wildcats were led by English riders, Kristy Rue, who won the Novice Fences division and placed third in Novice Flat, and Gretchen Pfister, who placed first in the Walk/Trot division. The top three riders in each division move on to the Zone Championships. Maureen Reynolds (2nd, Intermediate Fences), Emily Mertz (3rd, Intermediate Flat) and Kelly Gratny (3rd, Open) will join Pfister and Rue at the Zone competition, on Mar. 24. Other K-State team members who placed at the regional show were Kara Jagels (4th, Open Flat), Reynolds (5th, Novice Flat), Kati Griffin (5th, Walk/Trot/Canter), Callie Smith (5th, Walk/Trot), Gratny (6th, Reining) and Megan Hemberger (5th, Beginner). The Zone Championships will take place, Mar. 24, in Fort Collins, Colo., on the Colorado State University campus. The top two riders in each division at Zones will move onto the National Championships |
