Rue Earns High Point Rider Honors

Baton Rouge, La. - Wildcat rider Kristy Rue earned High Point Rider honors in the first show of the day at Louisiana State, Feb. 3. The K-State English riders brought home third place in the first show with 29 points and fourth place in the second show with 12 points. Oklahoma State won the first show of the day with 36 points and also took home first place honors in the second show of the day with 32 points (tie, Louisiana State).
Rue earned first place in Novice Fences and Novice Flat in the first show. Emily Mertz won the Intermediate Flat event at the second show. Many Wildcats also brought home second place honors including Kelly Gratny (Open Flat), Melissa Thompson (Intermediate Flat), Kelli Wilson (Advanced Walk, Trot, Canter), Julie Hufft (Advanced Walk, Trot, Canter), Gretchen Pfister (Walk, Trot), Callie Smith (Walk, Trot) and Kati Griffin (Advanced Walk, Trot, Canter).
The Wildcats are now in second place in regional standings with 172 points. K-State trails Texas A&M by 16 points and is one point ahead of Oklahoma State, with three shows remaining.
The English riders are back in action, Feb. 17-18, when they travel to West Texas A&M for a three-show competition. The Western riders start their spring season, Feb. 10-11, in Stillwater, Okla., for a three-show event.
