MANHATTAN, Kan. – After finishing the season with an 11-6 record, the Kansas State Equestrian team celebrated a strong season with its annual team banquet.
“We had a great year end banquet at the new West Stadium Center and our team really enjoyed the environment,” said head coach Casie Maxwell. “It was a great season with many goals accomplished and we enjoyed highlighting some of those special moments. Additionally, this is always a great opportunity for us to thank our seniors for their hard work and bid them farewell. We had a very special group this year and wish them all the best.”
The banquet is an opportunity for the team to reflect on the past season and to honor those who excelled during the year. The team recognized nine different awards and also revealed the captains for the 2014-15 season.
Most Improved Athlete of the Year – Gretchen Koenen
Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year – Kelly Bovaird
K-State Team Honor Roll
The Honor Roll was initiated last season to recognize athletes who exceed excellence in the classroom. Athletes must earn a minimum 3.5 semester grade point average to qualify for this award. For the Fall 2013 semester, K-State named 13 athletes to the Team Honor Roll.
Henley Adkins, Sydney Anson, Karsen Brown, Jordan Cox, Katie DeLano, Chayna DeNicolo, Nicholle Hatton, Jesse Johnson, Natalie Kestle, Laura Lafnitzegger, Mariah Moxley, Margaret Peine, and Maggie Watson.
Letter Award Winners
In order to letter, student athletes must compete in at least 7 competitions and win at least 50% of their matches. Additionally they must be in good academic standing with the University and coaching staff, as well as being eligible to compete.

Workhorse of the Year
This award is given to individuals who have put in countless hours in and out of the saddle. These athletes are always looking for ways to become stronger in the practice pen, the competition arena, and as teammates.

This award goes to riders who have shown dramatic improvement throughout the season.

The Purple Pride Award
This is awarded to the student athlete who shows endless dedication to K-State and the Equestrian program.

Most Outstanding Award
Recognizes one Hunter Seat and one Western rider per class. These riders have shown leadership to their teammates throughout the year. Their hard work and efforts are reflective in their performances throughout the season.

Overall Most Outstanding Player
This award goes to athletes who represent what it takes to be a successful Division I athlete. These riders have been key players in leading the team in and out of the arena.

This award goes to the athlete who maintained the highest GPA while achieving great success in the competition arena.
