ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. After a long weekend of competition, the Kansas State women’s equestrian team wrapped up play on Saturday by finishing in sixth place in the Western and English brackets at New Mexico State University.

On the English side, in the fifth place bracket the Wildcats posted a score of 638 dropping the contest to the Texas A&M Aggies who scored 742 points. Freshmen Leslie Yates led all Wildcats with a score of 151. K-State finished the day as the sixth place team.

In Western competition, Kansas State lost to the host school New Mexico State by a score of 820.5-824.5, taking home a sixth place finish. Senior Lindsey Hicks led all Wildcats with a score of 141.5.

“It’s been a long week. We didn’t stay focused and we made some major mistakes today, “ head coach Teresa Slough said. “In the Western bracket we lost by four points. We kind of beat ourselves out there. Now we are going to get ready for the IHSA National Tournament and hope for a different outcome.”

The Auburn Tigers finished the weekend as the overall National Champion, with the Oklahoma State Cowboys winning the Western title and the South Carolina Gamecocks winning the English bracket.

The Wildcats next action will be at the IHSA National Competition May 4-7.
