Terre Haute, Ind. The Kansas State equestrian team won with ease on Saturday, winning the

Western Zone Championship and are now qualified for the IHSA National show May 4-7 in Pennsylvania. The Wildcats were two points away from a perfect score and finished as the High Point Team with 40 points. The host team St. Mary of the Woods finished in second place with 30 points, while the University of Nebraska notched third place with 26 points.

Advancement to Nationals in the individual competition required a first or second placement in each class. K-State had seven riders in nine classes advance to Nationals today including, Sara Weller in Individual Open Reining, Team Reining and Individual Open Horsemanship, Claire Leet in Team Advanced Horsemanship, Gina Remus in Individual Beginner Horsemanship, Heather Culwell in Team Beginner Horsemanship, Michelle Schneider in Team Novice Horsemanship, Sarah Coomes in Team Intermediate Horsemanship and Lindsey Salsbury in Team Open Horsemanship.

“We are thrilled to have placed as well as we did,” head coach Teresa Slough said. “We still have things to work on before we get to Pennsylvania. But we are very pleased with how we performed today.”

K-State wraps up action tomorrow with the English Zone Championship at Purdue University starting at 9:00 a.m.
