COLLEGE STATION, Texas The Kansas State equestrian team lost to Baylor, 11-4 Sunday in the third place match of the Big 12 Classic Invitational at Freeman Arena.

Kansas State only managed four wins on the day, two in reining, one in Horsemanship and one in Equitation on the flat. The Bears cruised to a win with a victory in Horsemanship, 2-1, and Over Fences, 4-0. Kansas State battled back for a 2-2 tie in Reining, before losing 3-1 in Equitation on the Flat.

Junior Lindsey Salsbury captured a win in Reining, 69.5-66 beating Nicole McCoy of Baylor. Senior Dennon Zimbelman picked up the other win for K-State in Reining, 67-65 defeating Amanda Graber.

In English, sophomore Jennifer Giraldin took home a win in Equitation on the Flat, 57-46, over Mary Smitson.

“Overall as a team we rode weak today,” western coach Casie Lisabeth said. “We really hope that we got all of our bad rides out of the way today before National competition in a few weeks, and we hope to go to Nationals to work those things out.”

In the other Big 12 match-up play today, Texas A&M defeated Oklahoma State with ease, 9-6, to take home the Big 12 Classic Invitational Championship.

In other action this weekend several K-State English riders competed in IHSA Zones in Lake in the Woods, Ill. Two Wildcat riders qualified for Nationals including, Macie Ayers in Novice Flat and Dresden Sommer in Intermediate Flat.

Two other K-State riders Lianna Bodlack in Advanced Walk Trot Canter and Katie Edwards in Advanced Walk Trot Canter also performed well, but came up just short of qualifying for Nationals.

IHSA Nationals competition will take place May 3-6, in West Springfield, MA.
