Equestrian team rides well at Georgia, finishes with 1,084.1 points

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team finished up competiton at the Georgia show on Saturday in second place with 1,084.1 points. Georgia finished in first place with 1,217.7 points.

Although this show does not count toward Region 2 postseason competition, it offered a unique chance for the riders to compete at a show with a different format than normal. Kansas State sent five english riders and five western riders to the show, where each Kansas State rider squared off against a rider from Georgia in individual competition. The two riders each rode the same horse and were then comparatively judged and given a point total.

“We are very proud of the way the girls rode today,” western coach Meghan Cunningham said. “It was a new format and a new experience for them, and they did a great job. We didn’t get a win, but it was a good experience overall.”

Meanwhile, the western team is at SMS for a regional western show today and tommorrow. Full results from the SMS show will be posted later today.
