Equestrian team travels to Georgia, SMS for weekend shows

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team will be back in action across the country this weekend when the team splits up in order to compete at two different shows. The western team will travel to Springfield, Mo., for a regular season IHSA show, while five english riders and five western riders will travel to the Georgia Combined Show in Athens, Ga. The points the riders accumulate at the Southwest Missouri State show will contribute toward the team’s regular season point total, which makes this a critical show for the team. Kansas State leads the other teams in Region 2 by only six points.

“This show will be key in determining whether our team gets to ride in postseason competition,” head coach Teresa Slough said. “We have three riders who are competing for Region 2 High Point Rider honors and all three have a legitimate chance of getting the chance to ride at Nationals. This weekend will help decide which rider wins the chance to compete for the AQHA trophy.”

The Georgia Combined Show is a varsity show, and only Open riders will compete. The results of this show will not count toward qualifying for postseason competition.

The show at Georgia will begin Saturday morning at 10 a.m., EDT. The first show at Southwest Missouri State will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by an afternoon show. The second show is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
