MANHATTAN, Kan. The K-State western equestrian team finished with 21 points on day two of the Regional Western Point Show at Fox Creek Stables.  Black Hawk College took first with 28 points, which boosted it ahead in the Region 2 point standings with 11 points.  K-State’s Erin Peery was the High-Point Rider for Sunday’s show with 14 points, while Brandi Vogel’s 10 points were good enough for Reserve High-Point Rider.

“Brandi Vogel and Erin Peery both rode very well for us,” K-State head coach Lindsay Breidenthal said. “They both pulled their weight for the team this weekend and I’m proud of them.”

Peery earned two first-place finishes in open horsemanship A and open reining to clinch High-Point rider honors, while Vogel placed first in open horsemanship B and fourth in open reining to capture Reserve High-Point rider honors.

Other first-place finishers for Kansas State include Megan Hemberger in advanced horsemanship, Rachel Pierson in intermediate II horsemanship B and Andrea Wosel in novice horsemanship C.

Nicole Ruff contributed to the Wildcats’ efforts with a second-place finish in open reining and third-place showing in open horsemanship B. Other high-place finishers included Kara Taddiken and Megan Montgomery with second-place finishes in novice horsemanship A and intermediate I horsemanship, respectively. Riders finishing in third place were Megan Felts in advanced horsemanship, Kristin Tanney in open horsemanship A and Lauren Allen in novice horsemanship C.

“We noticed that we have some things to work on in order to get back on top and have a team compete in regionals,” Breidenthal said.

The western team returns to action on March 6 when they compete at Black Hawk College.
