WILDWOOD, Mo. Select members of the Kansas State Equestrian team competed in an IHSA scrimmage at Washington University, Saturday February 16 and Sunday February 17.

K-State matched up against 14 other schools including Augustana College, Iowa State, Missouri State, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, Illinois Wesleyan, Northwest Missouri State, Northwestern University, St. Louis University, Truman State, Washington University in St. Louis, Olivet Nazarene, Southern Illinois at Carbondale, and the University of Kansas.

“The entire weekend we rode really well,” English head coach Ashley Foster said. “I feel both days our rides were strong but on the flat we competed at a higher level than in the fences competition.”

With their performances this weekend six Wildcat riders qualified for regionals, including senior Lindsay Cook, junior Dresden Sommer, junior Hannah Schroller, junior Jenny Giraldin, junior Caroline Sweeney and junior Alden Haugh. The regional competition takes place April 5, in Elburn, Ill.

To qualify, riders must have accumulated 35 points in IHSA competition throughout the season. With a first or second place finish in regionals riders qualifiy for the zone championships and with a first or second place finish at zones riders will qualify for the nationals competition. Kansas State competes in the Zone 9, Region 2 bracket.

“We are very excited for the riders that qualified for regionals this weekend,” Foster said. “We will continue to work with them and prepare them for their upcoming competition and hope to send them further to zones and nationals”

The Wildcats next action takes place Friday Feb., 22 against Baylor and then Saturday Feb., 23 for a head-to-head competition against Texas A&M.
