MANHATTAN, Kan. - Two weeks after a thrilling win over South Dakota State, the No. 4 Kansas State equestrian team travels to Stillwater, Okla., for a conference tilt against No. 6 Oklahoma State on Saturday.
"This is a huge weekend for us and the last regular season road meet we have this year," said head coach Casie Maxwell. "We have been focusing on taking things one day at a time and one competition at a time and our team is really responding well. OSU has a great team with a lot of depth, so to beat them at their place we are really going to need to bring our A-game."
The Wildcats defeated the Cowgirls 11-9 earlier this season.
Captain Rachel Webster will make her spring season debut this weekend, as the senior returns to lead a strong Hunter Seat team. Webster will be one of four riders competing in both Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. Joining Webster in the two events will be senior Cat Avolese, junior Madison Wayda and freshman Henley Adkins. Jacquelyn Bogstad will be the fifth rider in Equitation on the Flat, while Shana Barnett rounds out the Equitation Over Fences team.
K-State's Western team will feature the same riders that took down the Jackrabbits 5-4.
The Horsemanship team brings a wealth of experience with four seniors and one sophomore. Kelly Bovaird, Amelia Crites, Chayna DeNicolo and Rachel Wetherell will look to defeat the Cowgirls in their final trip to Stillwater. Danielle Kemper is the lone underclassman in the group. In Reining, K-State brings six riders who have made major contributions this season. Senior Jesse Johnson picked up a win in her season debut against SDSU. Johnson joins Bovaird, Jordan Cox, Kara Guy, Emily Stockford and Savannah Smith in Reining this weekend.
The Wildcats make their spring home debut on Feb. 28, as K-State takes on No. 2 Baylor in a Big 12 conference showdown.
