Manhattan, Kan. - Kansas State equestrian rider Catherine Avolese will travel to Wellington, Fla., to participate at the Winter Equestrian Festival at second-annual Collegian Equestrian Challenge on February 11 at the International Arena of Palm Beach Equestrian Center.
The St. James, N.Y., native is in her first year with the Wildcats, and has shown terrific potential, racking up four wins on the season, including victories over opponents from nationally-ranked squads, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.
Avolese will go up against riders from the top programs in the nation, including competitors from every school in the VENC Top-10 poll.
The tournament will be run in the Varsity Equestrian head to head, bracketed format. Riders will compete over an equitation course with heights of up to 3'6". Competition will start at 2 p.m., with all 16 riders in the Preliminary Round. The eight winners will qualify for the finals in the evening, and the remaining eight will compete in a consolation bracket immediately following the Preliminary Round. The horses will be on loan from local professionals and unfamiliar to the riders. The winner of the Consolation Bracket will receive a trophy donated by Pierre and Martha Jolicoeur and the Champion will be presented a trophy sponsored by the South Florida Hunter Jumper Association.
