STILLWATER, Okla.- The Kansas State equestrian team closed out the fall portion of its 2011-12 schedule by knocking off the fourth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 12-10, Saturday in Stillwater, Okla. K-State (3-4) was led by a slew of riders including junior Hannah Ribera, who notched match-MVP honors for her performance in the Horsemanship arena.

Saturday's event marked the first match in Stillwater since the tragic loss of Oklahoma State women's basketball head coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna, who along with two others, were killed in a plane crash on Thursday in Arkansas.

"It is a bittersweet situation in light of the tragedy that has struck Oklahoma State this week," said K-State head coach Casie Lisabeth."Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and everyone affected by their loss."

"This was a huge win for our team today and I am proud of their energy and confidence against such a tough team," said Lisabeth. "We are excited to finish out the fall semester with a big win and look forward to continuing to progress throughout the spring."

In Hunt Seat action, K-State bested Oklahoma State, 7-5. In Equitation on the Flat, the Wildcats defeated the Cowgirls, 4-2, while the two squads tied, 3-3, in Equitation Over Fences.

Junior Larissa Laffey paced the Wildcats in both English events as she bested her Oklahoma State counterparts in Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. Laffey has now picked up a win in four consecutive matches to bring her season win total to five.

Also picking up wins in Equitation on the Flat were sophomore Rachel Webster and juniors Melanie Hinzpeter and Meredith Finch. Webster edged Oklahoma State rider Ellie Sparks, 72-71, Hinzpeter defeated Ali Rose, 77-75 and Finch toppled Andrea Robbins, 80-74.

In Equitation Over Fences, sophomores Shana Barnett and Sarah Mershon joined Laffey in the win column by notching wins over Oklahoma State's Olivia Trueb and Ellie Sparks, respectively.

On the Western side, K-State and Oklahoma State tied, 5-5. K-State carded the win in Horsemanship, 4-2, while the Cowgirls took home Reining honors, 3-1.

In Horsemanship, Ribera notched her fifth victory, to go along with her first match-MVP award of 2011, with an 80-77.5 win over Lauren Halvorson of Oklahoma State. A trio of sophomores also tallied wins in the event, with Kelly Bovaird, Amelia Crites and Chayna DeNicolo all besting their Oklahoma State counterparts. Wildcat riders Kelsey Sousa and Libby Tudor picked up exhibition wins in the event.

In Reining, sophomore Emily Stockford knocked off Caroline Daniels of Oklahoma State, 70.5-69, to pick up her third victory of 2011. Stockford was the lone point scorer in the event for the Wildcats.

K-State will kick off the 2012 spring season on January 27 as they travel to Martin, Tenn., to take on the Skyhawks of Tennessee-Martin, followed by a dual against New Mexico State on January 28 in Martin, Tenn. The Wildcats will return home to take on Oklahoma State on March 17, before hosting the 2012 Big 12 Championships at TimberCreek Stables in Manhattan.
