Equestrian Team Finishes Fall Season With Win

Junior Brandi Vogel's finished first in open reining and open horsemanship to lead the Kansas Sate Western equestrian team to a first-place finish Sunday in the final show of the weekend. The shows were hosted by Truman State University at the Midway Expo Center. Vogel's two first-place finishes earned her High-Point Rider honors for the second straight show and the third time this season. Senior Jessie Baldwin was awarded Reserve High-Point Rider honors. The nine individual wins today set a school record. Individual champions included junior Lauren Allen (intermediate II), Baldwin (open horsemanship), freshman Ruth Bradley (intermediate II), sophomore Krystal Briggs (intermediate II), sophomore Lindsey George (advanced II), junior Megan Hemberger (advanced I), Vogel (open reining and open horsemanship) senior Haley Wilson (intermediate I) and freshman Heather Zsamba (advanced II). The 'Cats won the show with 22 points, beating out Southwest Missouri State which scored 16 points. "The women were going one, two and three in many of the divisions," assistant coach Meghan Cunningham said. "They all rode really well. There were good performances by everyone, not one individual." Second-place ribbons went to sophomore Dehlia Burdan (advanced II), sophomore Elaine Cobb (intermediate II), senior Amanda Gigot (open reining), sophomore Sarah Grotheer (advanced II) junior Amanda Olbricht (open horsemanship), junior Erin Rees (advanced I), junior Beverly Wilson (advanced I) and freshman Andrea Wosel (intermediate II). Those placing third included freshman Mary Dill (beginner), freshman Jessica Lindsey (advanced I), sophomore Caitlin Morrison (open horsemanship) and senior Sarah Pittenger (open horsemanship). This was the final show of the fall season for the 'Cats. The Western team will next be in action Feb. 8-9 when it hosts two shows. The English team can next be seen March 1-2 at a show hosted by SMSU in Kansas City, Mo. ~ksu~ |
