AUBURN, Ala. - K-State junior Whitney Unkefer won her third straight ride of the season, but the Wildcats were unable to knock off top-ranked Auburn (4-0) on Friday. The match against the Tigers was the first of a difficult three-match southeastern trip this weekend.
In Western, K-State fell to Auburn, 5-3.
Unkefer improved to 3-0 for the season by defeating Auburn's Indy Roper, 75-74 in Horsemanship. The Pleasant Valley, Mo., product also earned her second match-MVP award this year.
Wildcat rider Hannah Ribera was the second and final point scorer in Horsemanship as she downed Katie Buff of Auburn, 74-73. In reining, sophomore Emily Stockford notched her first victory of the year.
In Hunt Seat, the Tigers knocked off the Wildcats, 7-3.
In Flat action, freshman Madison Wadya picked up her first win of the season by out riding Auburn's Piper Donnelly, 79-74. Wayda was the lone point scorer for the Wildcats in this event. Sophomores Cat Avolese and Sarah Mershon defeated their Auburn counterparts to earn K-State's two points in Equitation Over Fences.
K-State will face third-ranked Georgia and ninth-ranked TCU on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., respectively, in Athens, Ga. Recaps and updates will be available on kstatesports.com as soon as they are made available.
