Wildcat Equestrian Edged By No. 3 Auburn

MANHATTAN, Kan. –Despite another strong showing by the Kansas State’s Western squad, the third-ranked Auburn Tigers (10-3) slipped past the No.6 Wildcats, 7-6 Friday in Varsity Equestrian action at Timbercreek Stables.
K-State (4-8) dropped its sixth straight match of the season, but continued to compete at a high level against the nation’s best competition. The sixth-ranked Wildcats have faced teams from the VENC Top-10 in every match of the spring season and were narrowly edged Friday in a tightly-contest matchup.
On the English side, the Wildcats were led by freshman Rachel Webster, who picked up match MVP honors in Equitation on the Flat, defeated Auburn’s Quiny Hayes, 75-72. Also picking up a victory in Equitation on the Flat was sophomore Meredith Finch. The Oxford, Ohio native defeated Ali Loprete of Auburn, 75-73 to pick up her fifth win of the season.
Overall, K-State was bested by Auburn, 6-2, in Hunter Seat action.
In the Western arena, K-State had another strong outing in a 4-1 defeat of the Tigers.
In Horsemanship, freshman Kelly Bovaird continued her impressive freshman campaign by knocking off Auburn rider Chelsea Zillner, 71.5-66. Friday’s victory marked the eight win on the season for Bovaird, which is tops on the Wildcat squad.
In Reining, freshmen Jordan Cox picked up the first match-MVP award of her career by defeating Auburn’s Indy Roper, 72-67. Also picking up victories for the Wildcats were Sam Etsell and Alayna Warner; Etsell out-rode Jullian Fuller of Auburn, 67-65.5, while Warner edged Auburn rider Kristen Hansen, 66-65.5.
Kansas State will conclude its 2010-11 regular season Saturday, as it takes on the New Mexico State Aggies on Senior Day at Timbercreek Stables. The action will get underway at 10 a.m. and admission will be free to the public.
