IRVING, TEXAS - Kansas State senior Claire Coggins has been named Women’s Basketball Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention in a vote by the league’s head coaches, announced by the Big 12 Conference Tuesday.
Coggins, the 2006 postseason WNIT most valuable player and All-Big 12 second team selection is coming off a junior campaign where she led the team in scoring (13.5 ppg). A 5-foot-11 combination guard/forward, finished third in assists (70) and steals (47). She averaged 30.0 minutes per game while shooting .389 from the floor and the three-point range. In her three seasons at K-State, Coggins played in 90 career games while making 62 starts. She comes into the 2006-07 season with 831 career points and is just 169 points away from being the program’s 32nd 1,000 point scorer.
Oklahoma’s Courtney Paris was named Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, while Baylor’s Bernice Mosby was chosen Preseason Newcomer of the Year and Texas’ Brittainey Raven was tabbed Preseason Freshman of the Year. Paris was joined on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team by Lyndsey Medders (Iowa State), Kiera Hardy (Nebraska), Tiffany Jackson (Texas) and Morenike Atunrase (Texas A&M). Leah Rush (Oklahoma) and Alesha Robertson (Texas Tech) along with Coggins received honorable mention.
