MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State women’s basketball will begin the new 18-game Big 12 schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 4, as K-State received its conference schedule from the league office on Tuesday. The Wildcats have also added another non-conference contest and a pair of exhibition games to finalize the 2011-12 schedule.
K-State’s Big 12 schedule will begin with a home date against the defending national champions, Texas A&M, on Wednesday, Jan. 4. The remaining home schedule for the first half of the league season includes: Missouri (Jan. 11), Oklahoma (Jan. 17) and Iowa State (Jan. 25).
The Wildcats’ road slate in league play begins on Saturday, Jan. 7, with the renewal of the Dillons Sunflower Showdown with Kansas. The road schedule in the first half also includes dates at Texas Tech (Jan. 14), defending Big 12 champion Baylor (Jan. 21), Oklahoma State (Jan. 28) and Texas (Feb. 1).
Kansas State will begin the second half of league action in Bramlage Coliseum against the Lady Bears of Baylor on Saturday, Feb. 4. The second set of home games includes Kansas (Feb. 11), Texas (Feb. 18), Oklahoma State (Feb. 22) while the regular season finale will be against Texas Tech on March 3.
The second half road schedule begins on Wednesday, Feb. 8, in College Station, Texas against Texas A&M and includes games at Oklahoma (Feb. 15), Missouri (Feb. 25) and Iowa State (Feb. 29).
K-State also completed its non-conference schedule, as the Wildcats will visit Marist on Thursday, Dec. 29. The Red Foxes enter the 2011-12 campaign fresh off its sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, which resulted in a first round upset of Iowa State in Durham, N.C. Marist recorded a 31-3 record during the 2010-11 season and won their sixth straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament title and secured its eighth consecutive regular season MAAC crown. K-State will face Marist for the first time in the program’s history and is 2-0 against schools from the MAAC.
The Wildcats will begin the 2011-12 season with a pair of exhibition contests in November. K-State will make its debut on Thursday, Nov. 3, against Oklahoma City University. The Stars finished the 2010-11 season with a 27-4 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship. This season, Oklahoma City will be aided on the sidelines by former Wildcat letterwinner Claire Coggins. The former two-time All-Big 12 second team recipient will be in her first season as an assistant coach for the Stars following a two-year stint as an assistant at Connors State.
K-State will conclude its two-game exhibition schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 8, against Washburn. The Lady Blues finished the 2010-11 season with a 22-7 record and played in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament.
The television schedule, as well as the game times, will be released at a later date.
Head coach Deb Patterson returns eight letterwinners and three starters from the 12th NCAA Tournament squad in school history, including All-Big 12 selections Brittany Chambers and Jalana Childs. The Wildcats registered an overall record of 21-11 and a 10-6 mark in Big 12 action, which resulted in a tie for third place in the league.
Season ticket packages for the Wildcats’ 2011-12 season are available now through the K-State Athletic Ticket Office. Fans can also purchase tickets online at www.k-statesports.com, or can call the ticket office at (800) 221-CATS.
Season ticket prices begin at just $50 each when fans purchase a Wildcat 4-Pack of four or more general admission tickets. General admission tickets can otherwise be purchased for $78 per seat. Other seating options include Reserved Bench and Cat Cushion tickets at $99 per seat, as well as Chairback seats for $132 each (plus a $50 donation per season ticket account to the Ahearn Fund).
