ST. LOUIS For the second time of her career, Kansas State’s Nicole Ohlde was tabbed a first team All-American by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Thursday.

Ohlde, a 6-foot-5 senior center from Clay Center, Kan., was honored on the 2003-04 first team along with National Player of the Year Alana Beard of Duke, Kelly Mazzante of Penn State, Diana Taurasi of Connecticut and Nicole Powell of Stanford.

Second team honors were bestowed on Shyra Ely of Tennessee, Chandi Jones of Houston, Stacy Stephens of Texas, Lindsay Whalen of Minnesota and Shereka Wright of Purdue.

In the eight-year history of the USBWA Women's All-America Team, there have been eight three-time honorees, half of which are 2003-04 selections (Beard, Mazzante, Powell and Whalen). Ohlde, Taurasi and Wright are three of the 13 all-time back-to-back All-Americans.

Each of the first team selections, Beard (ACC), Mazzante (Big Ten), Powell (Pac-10), Taurasi (Big East) and Ohlde (Big 12), were named their conference’s selection as player of the year.

The USBWA, formed in 1956, names a women's player, coach, and freshman of the year in addition to its All-America team. Earlier this week, Joe Curl of Houston was selected as Coach of the Year and Tiffany Jackson of Texas was named Freshman of the Year by the association’s voting membership.
