KANSAS STATE HEAD COACH DEB PATTERSON

On the team’s growth since first playing CU...

“On the offensive end of the floor I think had a significantly better level of execution.  Defensively I think we’ve grown a lot.  We defended extremely well tonight.  We were able to build from what we learned in that first match up and grew defensively over that period of time.  In my opinion, we’ve grown in all phases of the game.  You should improve from your first conference road game to a game in February.  I’m really happy for our team for the improvement and the strides they continue to make.”

On the play of Senior Amy Dutmer...

“I think Amy stepped up and did a tremendous job.  She did a great job defensively.  When she had her opportunities within the framework of the offense, she stepped up and made big plays.  That’s the advantage of having her on the floor.  She brings a great understanding of our system, and generally she stays real true to it.  On a night like tonight when she’s hitting shots she did, she can just stick a dagger into the opposition.  Our team becomes very difficult to guard with a fifth scorer and Amy brought that.  None of that scoring means anything if you’re not defending and rebounding at a high level.  She brought her total game and she made our team very successful because of it.”

On the total team effort...

“When you look at the assist numbers, you need to understand that that is Kansas State Basketball at our best.  People were sharing the ball.  The ball was moving from spot to spot.  We had a lot of distribution in our shots and that’s the way we like to play.  When you see that happen, it is probably our preferred method.  We can play other ways and I think we have proven that this year.  We’ve played games where we haven’t shot the threes and we’ve won.  We’ve had games where we’ve had two players in double figures and won.  We’ve also had games like today where there’s four (players) in double figures.  It feels real good when we have the opportunity to distribute the ball like that because, again, it’s an unselfish team and an unselfish system.  We want to take what the game is giving us.  I thought today we made great reads, got the ball into the right hands at the right time, and finished shots.”
