Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes
Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening statement...
“It is great to get that first win at home. We are excited. I thought we improved in some areas tonight. We definitely improved from the first half to the second half with our rebounding effort, which is encouraging, and also with our assist numbers, which is encouraging. This team came in at halftime and improved in some areas that we addressed. We had a little bit of a drought at the beginning of the second half. It is just something we have to plug away and work at, but overall I am happy with their intensity and the play of our players with the mixture of youth and experience that we have right now at the beginning of the season out there on the floor.”

On starting four freshmen…
“They did great. I know there must have been a little bit of nervousness being that it was their first game and there was a lot of youth out there. But, I had a lot of confidence in Haley [Texada] because she has been through the wars. She is a great setter for us and a great communicator when she is out there. It was definitely a young crew, but was really anchored there with Haley so I felt very secure.”

On the offensive scoring spurts…
“It was interesting because that is sort of what we have seen from our team in the last game as well. We see individuals step up and kind of own the game for three or four possessions and then someone else will step up and own it for three or four possessions, so it is kind of fun to see the game evolve and change. It is a much longer game now with as many options and combinations as we have. They are in and out quick so it has been fun to have some variety in what we can put out there on the floor, so we can change the game a little bit.”

Senior Forward Ashlynn Knoll
On playing first game…
“It is great coming back. Definitely a long rehab working hard to come back. It is rewarding and amazing to get to play one more year.”

On thoughts about performance…
“Yeah it is just exciting it was a fun game. I will definitely start taking advantage of it. I will start appreciating everything and every minute.”

On mind during the 8-point run…
“Yeah it kind of just came I was getting the ball inside. It just kind of worked out I guess.”

Junior Guard Haley Texada
On play in the game…
“Yeah, earlier this week quite a few of us got in to film with Coach and she critiqued something’s pretty well. We just came to the court with a different mindset. We knew what we needed to do as a whole. It worked pretty well and we have learned from it all.”
