Kansas State Head Coach Deb Patterson

On the game...
"I couldn't be any more pleased with our poise in this game. Wecker and Ohlde were just phenomenal today. I was also really impressed the competitiveness that Texas brought to the floor."

On playing against Texas' defense...
I "Our team had to understand how Texas extends the floor. We tried to take from what they were giving us. They really make you work for everything, and we tried to establish some level of efficiency. I really give credit to Texas for being a tough defensive team, and they are probably as tough defensively as any team we will line up against."

On K-State's play in the last few minutes...
"Our team stepped up in an exceptional manner down the stretch. I am really proud of the intensity and focus we showed late in the game. Megan Mahoney and Kendra Wecker especially stepped up on the defensive end. We were able to take our execution to the next level and the level that we are capable of as the clock started to wind down."

Forward Kendra Wecker
On her scoring run in the first half...
"I missed a few shots early. I took a couple of quick three's that I probably shouldn't have. I tried to rush some things. I got some open looks with the jump shot off the dribble and was able to knock those down. I felt pretty good. I thought my teammates would probably get mad, but I just kept shooting."

Guard/foward Megan Mahoney
On guarding the Longhorns' last attempt...
"I didn't want to foul. I was hoping the time would go out faster. I'm just glad. I'm just excited. I didn't want to foul and give them a three-point play or something. I didn't think they had enough time to drive, so I was just trying to play her on the shot. She took it strong to the basket, fortunately for us they didn't have enough time to do that, so it worked out."

On Texas...
"Texas has a lot of weapons on offense an they are very physical with quick guards. We just had to counter their quickness with our team defense because we might not be as quick individually as they are. We just had to battle it out. It was a close game the whole way and we just had to stay strong and not lose our edge going down the stretch."

Center Nicole Ohlde
On the physical play of Texas...
"They were pretty physical and Texas usually is, but I think a lot of teams we've played so far in the Big 12 have been really physical. I wouldn't say they were the most physical, they were just another team that likes to come out and play physically."

On the game...
"It couldn't be more close than it was. I don't know what to say to that one. It was a close game and it was tough and we're just happy to get a win."

Guard Laurie Koehn
On her clutch three...
"I was all by myself. Ohlde had a great pass out to me and that's one of those you have to hit. It was a wide-open look, great pass and it was a fun game to play, Texas is a great team. Like last year when we played them in Austin it was an exciting game that went down to the wire. Those are the fun games to play in and compete in, so I think we're all just excited it came out like it did."

On getting out on the floor...
"It was great. I think I haven't been able to stop smiling since the game started, just because I was so excited to be back out there, but obviously it's feeling pretty good right now. Hopefully it stays that way."

Texas Head Coach Jody Conradt

Opening comment...
"We really fought back. We had our chances. We gave them second, sometimes third opportunities on the K-State offensive end. I credit them for working hard on the floor. I credit them for boxing out on the block. It was a good defensive effort if we finish our defense and don't give them second and third opportunities. We've got to rebound better than we did. We have to shoot better than we did. And we have to stop fouling quite so much and then we have a chance to win. I'm really disappointed because I thought that our team played hard. K-State is very hard to defend. They are a very diverse offensive team, but we have to be a lot more aggressive offensively than we were today."

On what they were looking for on their last play...
"I thought that our team was really, really good on that play without a timeout and trying to get organized. All they needed was a great look and we probably could have proceeded with out the dribble and we had a chance to win the game. But it didn't come down to that last play. That was just really good execution and a really good job of getting organized as hectic as is was without a timeout to talk about it."

On breaking apart K-State's "big four"...
"We just wanted to defend. I feel like we can defend teams. We're not going to back off of people. We're going to try to play pressure if we can. We didn't do a very good job on (Kendra) Wecker. If you take away her second opportunities and defend her. I know three times in the first half she missed the shot, she follows and she gets three buckets and that type of thing can't happen, it just can't. That's what I'm talking about in terms of finishing our defense. It isn't over until you have the defensive rebound. We wanted to pressure. We wanted to remain athletic. We wanted to try to make it hard for them to score. We wanted to push their offense out and for the most part, until the last part of the ballgame, I thought that we had done a good job. We didn't necessarily counter on the offensive end as good as we need to be. A lot of ill-advised shots, a lack of patience. All of those things are correctable. I know this team well enough to know that they are going to get home and get ready for the next one."

Guard/forward Heather Schreiber
On the K-State environment...
"The whole game I thought we played pretty good, staying close to them and not letting them go on any runs. Their crowd was just great. Seeing all of those people running into the gym, really shows how much their program has come along. It was a really good environment to be playing in. It will helps us get ready for more road games that we have. We felt that we made some little mistakes that cost us the game. We played pretty well and all. You can't make little mistakes against a really good team."

On defending Kendra Wecker...
"She's a really great player. She's really versatile, able to post-up or face up to the goal. I know that there were a lot of time when there was a hand in her face and she was still making them. She was pretty much hot. We talked about not letting her touch the ball once she gets on a roll like that."

Guard Jamie Carey
On shooting the final three free throws...
"I think that anytime you are in a game situation like that, true players want to shoot the ball. Schreiber did too and that's what you look for. I just got fouled and you just got into a mind frame that no one else is in the gym and you're the only one. I'm sure that there were 14,000 people screaming, but I didn't hear any of them. You just go in there and knock them down."
