K-State Closes Out Fall Season

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men’s golf team will travel to Stockton, Calif., to compete in the Pacific Invitational at the Brookside Country Club, Monday-Wednesday, November 1-3. The tournament marks the last action of the fall season for the Wildcats. The event tees off each day at 8 a.m. with threesomes teeing off on holes No. 1 and No. 10.. THE LINEUP: The Wildcats will be led into action by a pair of freshmen, Thomas Birdsey and Jack Watson, who have combined for five top-20 finishes on the season. They will be joined by a pair of sophomores, Ben Juffer and Curtis Yonke, as well as senior Jason Schulte to round out the scoring lineup.
LOOK AT THE FIELD: The 12-team field includes: Brigham Young, Denver, Fresno State, Kansas State, Marquette, Nevada, Oregon State, Pacific, Santa Clara, St. Mary’s, UC Davis and UNC Charlotte.
YOUTH MOVEMENT: With 70 percent of the K-State roster being made up of underclassmen, the 2010-11 Wildcats have had a bevy of young golfers receive invaluable experience. Those underclassmen are taking advantage, accounting for eight of the team’s 10 top-20 finishes in just five tournaments so far, including both top-5 placings. K-State’s freshmen class was ranked seventh in the latest golfstat.com Freshman Impact Rankings.
2009 PACIFIC INVITATIONAL: K-State took fifth place at the 2009 Pacific Invitational after winning the tournament in 2008. The Wildcats carded a 9-under par 843 and were led by graduated senior Mitchell Gregson, who took fourth place at 8-under.
LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats struggled to put together four solid scores, finishing in ninth at the David Toms Intercollegiate in Baton Rouge, La. Freshman Jack Watson was the top performer for the Wildcats, carding a 5-under par 211 to put him in a tie for sixth, his second top 10 finish of the season.
