K-State Heads to the Bayou

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men’s golf team will travel to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the David Toms Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Louisiana, Monday-Tuesday, October 18-19. The event tees off Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start at 8:00 a.m, with Tuesday’s final round parings teeing of on tees No. 1 and No. 10 between 8:00-10:00 a.m. Live scoring for the event will be available on www.golfstat.com.
THE LINEUP: The Wildcats will be lead into action by a trio of freshmen, Thomas Birdsey, David Klaudt and Jack Watson, who have all showed flashes of success throughout the season. They will be joined by a pair of sophomores, Ben Juffer and Chase Chamberlin, to round out the scoring lineup.
LOOK AT THE FIELD: The 14-team field includes: Arkansas, Georgia Southern, K-State, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State, North Florida, Ole Miss, Rice, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, UAB.
YOUTH MOVEMENT: With 70 percent of the K-State roster being made up of underclassmen, the 2010-11 season has seen a bevy of young golfers receive invaluable experience for the Wildcats. Those underclassmen are taking advantage, accounting for seven of the team’s nine Top-20 finishes in just four tournaments so far, including both top-5 placings.
2009 DAVID TOMS INTERCOLLEGIATE: This marks the first time that K-State will compete in the David Toms Intercollegiate. Last year’s event was won by host LSU with an 8-under par 844. Jade Scott of Rice took home top honors individually, carding a 9-under par 204.
LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats struggled to gain traction at the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio, finishing in 11th. Freshman Thomas Birdsey was the top performer for the Wildcats, carding a 3-over par 219 to put him in a tie for 20th.
