SHREVEPORT, La. - The Kansas State men's golf team will compete for the third straight week as the Wildcats travel to Shreveport, La., for the David Toms Intercollegiate. It marks the second consecutive season that K-State will compete in the event.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday, with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. The Southern Trace Country Club is a par 72, 7,015-yard layout that is the home course of 2001 PGA Champion David Toms.
K-State will use the scoring lineup of Kyle Weldon, Kyle Smell, Ben Juffer, Chase Chamberlin and Curtis Yonke for the third time this season. The lineup previously finished seventh at the UTA/Waterchase Invitational and third in the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate.
Weldon, who leads the Wildcats in individual scoring, looks to continue his solid freshman campaign in which he has finished in the top-20 in each of the first four tournaments. Smell, the lone senior on the squad, has been just as instrumental in the success of the team through the first four tournaments with his team-high two top-10 finishes.
The Wildcats competed in last year's David Toms Intercollegiate, which took place at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. Jack Watson fired off a 5-under par 211 to earn a tie for sixth to lead the Cats to a ninth-place team finish. Chase Chamberlin and Ben Juffer competed in this event, finishing in a tie for 50th and a tie for 68th, respectively.
Joining K-State in next week's tournament are Lamar, LSU, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, SMU, South Alabama and Tulsa.
