RENO, Nev. The Kansas State men’s golf team started slow Monday at the Wolf Pack Classic but carded an 8-under par second round score of 280 to give them a 36-hole score of 5-under par 571 to sit in fifth place at the par 72, 7,100-yard Wolf Run Golf Course.

New Mexico State and Tennessee sit atop the leader board tied with a score of 8-under par 568. Arizona is currently in third place with a 7-under par score of 569, while Fresno State is in fourth at 6-under par 570. Kansas State leads sixth-place team Sacramento State by three strokes after the Hornets carded a 2-under par 571.

“This morning we got behind a little bit, but we had a real nice round this afternoon,” said head coach Tim Norris. “We had a lot of scores under par today. The conditions are good but the greens are very tricky. We are not up in the mountains but we are in the foothills, so there is a definite effect on all the putts as far as which direction you are going. That is kind of the challenge of the golf course and if you can figure that out, there is a lot of birdies to made out here. Our guys did a good job today and hopefully we can get another solid team score tomorrow and see what happens.”

Wichita State golfer Dustin Garza is in first place with a 12-under par 132, placing him six strokes ahead of Kevin Lozares of New Mexico State.

Kansas State senior Robert Streb carded even par 72 in the first round breaking a streak of six-straight rounds under par but handed in a 2-under par 70 in the second round for a 36-hole score of 142, placing him in a tie for 10th place. Fellow Wildcat golfer Ross Geubelle and six other golfers are also tied for 10th as Geubelle carded the lowest score Wildcat today when he shot a 3-under par 69 in the second round.

Mitchell Gregson sits at 1-under par 143 to place him in a tie for 18th place along with three other golfers. Junior Joe Ida is in a seven-player tie for 22nd place with an even par score of 144.

Jason Schulte and Daniel Wood rounded out the rest of the Wildcat golfers. Wood is in a three-way tie for 54th place as he finished the day with an 8-over par 152. Schulte, a sophomore, carded a 12-over par 156 and is tied for 64th heading into the final round.

The Wildcats look to rally back from three shots back on Tuesday with an 8:00 a.m. (PT) shotgun start at the Wolf Pack Classic. Final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com as soon as they are made available.
