MEMPHIS, Tenn. After carding two consecutive rounds of 294, the Kansas State men’s golf team is tied for second with Southern Miss at the Memphis Intercollegiate. Both teams finished the day at 12-over 588. Host school Memphis leads the tournament after firing a 291-288579 (+3) at the par-72, 7,249-yard Colonial Country Club.

Head Coach Tim Norris is pleased with what his team could do through 36 holes, despite playing on a difficult course.

“This is a challenging course,” Norris said. “We have to come out playing well tomorrow, and I think these guys are ready to do so.”

Keven Fortin-Simard of Memphis is the overall leader, firing a 69-67136 (-8) on his home course. Senior Tyler Cummins leads K-State and is currently tied for seventh with a two-round score of 145 (72-73, +1).

“Tyler is going to be right up there,” Norris added. “He is going to be a guy that turns us from a good team to a really good team. He has learned a lot after playing one year at this level, and is more confident now.”

Senior Ben Kern Kern is tied for 10th heading into the final round after carding a 75-71146 (+2).

“He just missed a couple of shots here and there,” Norris said. He stumbled a little, but I expect him to come out and play well tomorrow.”

The Wildcats will conclude the Memphis Intercollegiate Tuesday. Result will be posted on www.k-statesports.com as soon as they are available.
