K-State Finishes Fourth at Wolverine Intercollegiate
After finishing eighth at their last tournament and fourth this weekend, Head Coach Tim Norris is pleased with the Wildcats’ start to the season.
“We are getting really close,” Norris said. “We lost by 12 shots the first tournament and 13 this one, and both tournaments we could find those shots.”
After shooting five rounds of sub-70 golf on the season, Ben Kern carded a 73 during Sunday’s final round to finish the tournament tied for eighth at 209 (68-68-73, -4).
“His putts just didn’t fall today,” Norris said. “He only had two birdies today, one of which he drove a par-4, but then two-putted.”
Senior Tyler Cummins led K-State on the day, firing a final-round 68 en route to a 72-72-68212 (-1) performance, good enough for 13th overall. It was his highest placing since tying for seventh at the Kansas Invitational on Sept. 21 of last year.
Robert Streb tied for 35th for the second straight tournament, carding a 5-over, 218. Kyle Yonke improved his 62nd-place finish two weeks ago, firing an eight-over, 221 to tie for 50th. Joe Kinney, playing in his first collegiate tournament, shot a nine-over, 222 to tie for 56th.
The Wildcats are back in action next week at the Memphis Intercollegiate, Oct. 3-4.
