SUGAR GROVE, Ill. Behind true freshmen Mitchell Gregson and Jason Schulte, the Kansas State men’s golf team are in second place at the Central Region Preview after the first round of play. Louisville held a one-stoke lead following a first-round score of 297. Second-round action was suspended due to darkest.

“The play was very slow due to the difficulty of the course,” head coach Tim Norris said. “We didn’t execute like we wanted to in the first round. Our three freshmen accounted for a total score of 2-over par, which was good to see.”

Gregson, a Waterloo, Ill., native, was in first place after carding a score of one-under par 71. Two strokes behind him was Schulte with a 1-over par 73.

Another freshmen, Joe Ida, tallied a first-round score of 74.

Sophomore Robert Streb struggled in the first round, carding an uncharacteristic round of 8-over par 80. However, he has battled back in the second round, according to Norris.

Junior Kyle Yonke rounded out the K-State competitors with a 9-over par 81.

Both Schulte and Gregson must complete one hole, while Streb must complete two holes before the Wildcats tee off for the final 18-holes of competition.
