Streb Narrowly Misses Match-Play at US Amateur
Streb opened competition at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., with a 9-over 79 while playing the 6,948 yard par-70 Lakeside Course on Monday and Tuesday, but rallied with a 69 during Wednesday’s second round on the Oceanside Course.
Streb’s 69 was a top-12 mark for the second round, but his two-round stroke play total of 149 tied him at No. 76 and on the outside edge of Wednesday’s cut.
The US Amateur opening round was originally scheduled to start and conclude on Monday but foggy conditions delayed the start of the event nearly four hours and by nightfall more than half of the competitors had yet to finish. The delay also moved the second round of stroke play from Tuesday to Wednesday.
