Wildcats Eliminated At Kansas Amateur
GARDEN CITY,
Cummins, the No. 4 seed in the match play championship, lost to No. 5 seed Dodge Kemmer, 3&2. The pair split the front nine, with each player winning one hole and halving the other seven. The two were even after No. 12, but Kemmer broke away as he won three of the last four holes to advance to the finals of the Upper Bracket.
Geubelle nearly made an amazing comeback against No. 50 seed Taylor Dunham, but fell just short. Dunham was only 1 up through the first five holes, but then broke away as he won four of the next seven holes, holding a five-hole lead over Geubelle after No. 12. Geubelle, the No. 23 seed, fired back as he won four of the next five holes to cut the lead to one heading to No. 18. However, Dunham was able to hold off Geubelle as the duo pared the final hole.
In the afternoon, Kemmer lost in the Upper Bracket final to Drew Lethem, and Dunham lost in the Lower Bracket final to Brad Boan. Letham and Boan will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Sunday for the championship of the Kansas Amateur.
