Wildcats Playing in State Amateurs
Playing at the Topeka Country Club and Shawnee Country Club beginning this morning are current Wildcats: Kyle Yonke, Joe Ida, Spencer Alefs and Jason Schulte. Yonke is the 40th seed and is taking on the 25th seed, Derek Dultmeier (8:25 a.m.). Ida comes into the event as the 23rd seed and is playing the 42nd seed Zac Burton (11:07 a.m.). Alefs is the 51st seed in the match play event and he is paired against 14th-seeded Sam Wempe (11:34 a.m.). Schulte is the 46th seed and will play the 19th seed Gary Lucas (11:43 a.m.).
A pair of former Wildcats face off in the first round of match play, as the 24th seed and 2001 Kansas Amateur champion Matt Williams takes on 41st seed Jay Kramer at 8:43 a.m.
Incoming freshman Kyle Smell is the highest seeded player representing Kansas State, as he is the 12th seed taking on the 53rd seed Drew Lethem (9:46 a.m.).
The 97th Kansas Amateur begins today and will conclude on July 22 with a 36-hole match play championship.
