K-State Men's Golfers Play Well in KGA Events

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Five Kansas State men’s golfers will participate in the Kansas Golf Association (KGA) Kansas Amateur to be held July 18-24, at Hallbrook Country Club in Leawood, Kan.
Curtis Yonke, who was the 2011 US Open local qualifying medalist in Wichita, and Ben Juffer, a quarterfinalist in the 2010 Kansas Amateur, were exempt from qualifying and will be in the field of 118 competitors.
Chase Chamberlin qualified for the event by finishing ninth at Manhattan Country Club on June 27, with a score of 2-over par 72.
Kyle Smell placed 35th at Sunflower Hills GC in Bonner Springs on June 22, at of 6-over par 78. Smell, a senior for the 2011-12 season, finished one stroke ahead of the cut.
Tyler Norris, a sophomore-to-be, tied for 11th at 1-over par 73 on June 2, at Sand Creek Station GC in Newton.
In addition to qualifying for the Kansas Amateur at Sand Creek Station, Norris also tied for third at The Inaugural Railer, Kansas Stroke Play Championship, June 24-26.
Norris finished the 54-hole tournament at 6-over par 222 (72-74-76) to tie with Myles Miller of Wellington. The Manhattan, Kan., product finished five strokes back of a first-place tie.
