Wildcats End Memorable Season
DALY CITY, Calif. - The Kansas State men's golf team finished in tie for 12th place at NCAA West Regional as the Wildcats fired a final round score 2-under par 286 Saturday at the 6,842-yard Lake Merced Golf Club.
"It was just a fantastic season," said head coach Tim Norris. "This whole season was one to remember for all the guys and myself included. I think that we have definitely raised the bar. This wasn't our best three days, but it should not overshadow anything the guys did this year. I'm so optimistic about next year. We have a chance to be even better than this year because we have so much to build off of with Mitch (Gregson), Joe (Ida) and Kyle (Smell) all coming back."
Arizona State claimed the title after shooting a 36-under par 828. Oregon, Texas A&M, San Diego and Southern California rounded out the top five as each advanced to the 2009 NCAA Championship, May 27-30 in Toledo, Ohio.
Sophomore Jesper Kennegard took home the individual title after carding a three-round score of 12-under par 204. Bronson Burgoon of Texas A&M finished second with an 11-under par par 205.
The Wildcats, who carded a three-round score of 8-over par 872, were led by senior Robert Streb who carded a 4-under par 68 in the final round to give him a three-day score of 3-under par 213. Streb finished the final tournament of his career in 19th place.
Junior Mitchell Gregson, who fired a 2-under par 70 in the final round, finished tied for 31st place.
Ida, Smell, and Wood all finished in a tie for 66th as each carded an 8-over par 224.
