Watkins Named to All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team For Second Straight Year
DALLAS - Kansas State senior Aaron Watkins was named to the 2004 All-Big 12 Men’s Golf Team as voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced by the conference office Thursday. Last year, Watkins made history as he became the first K-State golfer selected to the All-Big 12 Conference team.
Watkins is one of just three golfers to be selected to both the 2003 and 2004 All-Big 12 Team. The league’s 2004 Player of the Year and tournament Champion Jason Hartwick earned All-Big 12 honors for the fourth consecutive year, while Baylor’s Ryan Baca was named to the team for second straight year. This season, Watkins has garnered six top-10 finishes in 11 events. The Mesa, Ariz., native began the fall season on a tear, as he picked up three consecutive top-5 finishes and four straight top-10 finishes. Just this past week, Watkins tied for sixth at the Big 12 Championships played at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. Texas head coach John Fields was named as Big 12 Coach of the Year for the third straight year and Oklahoma’s Anthony Kim was named Newcomer of the Year. 2004 All-Big 12 Conference Men’s Golf Team Coach of the Year: John Fields, Texas
