Wildcats Head to Big 12 Championship
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The 64th-ranked Kansas State men's golf team travels to Trinity, Texas, to compete in the Big 12 Championship, Friday, April 23, through Sunday, April 25. The conference championship will begin with 36 holes on Friday, followed by 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday. Teams will tee off on the No. 1 and No. 10 tees at 8 a.m. and 8:50 a.m., respectively on Friday and Sunday, while Saturday's third round will begin one hour later. LOOK AT THE FIELD: The 12-team field includes No. 1 ranked Oklahoma State, defending national champion Texas A&M, No. 7 Texas, No. 17 Texas Tech, Baylor, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska.
LAST TIME OUT: Freshman Curtis Yonke won the individual title at the Mizzou Intercollegiate after besting Nebraska's Brandon Crick on the fourth playoff hole. The Wildcats took home second place as a team to record their sixth top-five finish of the season.
2009 BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP: The Wilcats battled rain and thunderstorms to finish in fourth place at the 2009 Big 12 Championship. The fourth-place finish tied the 2003-04 team for the best Big 12 Championship finish in K-State history.
Former Wildcat, Robert Streb finished in third among individuals. The third-place finish was the best finish by a Wildcat golfer at the Big 12 Championship in school history.
HOST - WHISPERING PINES GOLF CLUB: Baylor University will host the 12-team field at the par 72, 7,480-yard Whispering Pines Golf Club. Whispering Pines has been rated the No. 1 golf course in Texas five years in a row by the Dallas Morning News.
