K-State Struggles During Round Two Saturday
TEMPE, Ariz. - After a 1-over par 289 during first-round play Friday, the Kansas State men's golf team had a round to forget as the Wildcats finished round two at 19-over par 307 Saturday at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. K-State will enter final-round play in 16th place at 20-over par 596 on the par 72, 7,057-yard ASU Karsten Course.
"It was either bad starts or bad finishes," said head coach Tim Norris. "We were not near where we need to be, but we have tomorrow to right ourselves and gain confidence for the conference tournament."
Oregon held just a one-stroke lead over Southern California after 18 holes, but the Ducks fired a second-round score of 9-under par 279 to pull away from the field, holding the 54-hole lead at 20-under par 556.
Oregon's Derek Sipe, who led by one stroke after the first 18 holes, extended his lead to two shots by following up Friday's round of 7-under par 65 with a 6-under par 66 Saturday to hold a two-round score of 13-under par 131. Charlie Beljan of New Mexico is second at 11-under par 133.
