COLUMBUS, Ohio -
The Kansas State men's golf team continued to struggle with Ohio State's Scarlet Golf Course Sunday, as the Wildcats carded a final-round 303 to place eleventh at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate. The Wildcats posted a total of 313-303-307=923 on the par-72, 7,258-yard Scarlet Course.
Leading the way for the Wildcats was junior co-captain Aaron Watkins. The Mesa, Ariz., native struggled during the first day of play, but carded an even-par 72 during the final round to tie for 19th with a 77-78-72=227 total and earn his ninth Top-20 finish of the season.
Junior A.J. Elgert and freshman Josh Persons finished with totals of 233 to tie for 47th, sophomore Matt Van Cleave tied for 58th with a 235, and junior Greg Douglas tied for 60th with a 236.
Host Ohio State captured the team title with a total of 893, Illinois placed second with an 897, and Kentucky finished third with a 900. Toledo's Brad Heaven took the title of individual medalist with a 3-over-par 219.
The Kepler event is K-State's final regular season tournament of its 2002-03 schedule, with the Wildcats' next tournament being the Big 12 Championship, hosted by Oklahoma State at Southern Hills Country Club on April 28-29.
