Wildcats Headed to Desert Shootout
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team travels to Goodyear, Ariz., to compete in the Desert Shootout, Thursday, March 18 thru Saturday, March 20. The event will tee off Thursday from the No. 1 and 10 tees beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CST). On Friday, the tournament will again tee off from the No. 1 and 10 tees and begin at 8:30 a.m. (CST). Saturday's final round will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CST).
LOOK AT THE FIELD: The 18-team field includes teams from across the country, including Big 12 foes Kansas, Iowa State and Nebraska. Also competing will be Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Denver, Eastern Michigan, Kansas State, Memphis, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Pacific, Southern Utah, Utah, Virginia Commonwealth, Wichita State and Xavier.
LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats got off to a rough start to the spring portion of their season as they finished 15th at the Fresno State Lexus Classic. The Wildcats shot a 67-over par 1,132 in a tournament that took the top-five scores per round, unlike most tournaments that take only the top-four scores per round.
THE 2009 DESERT SHOOTOUT: Kansas State carded a 19-under par 845 to record their eighth top-five finish of the season, tying the 2007-08 team for the most top-five finishes in a season. Former Wildcat Robert Streb carded his lowest three-round score of the season with a 13-under par 203 and finished in fourth place.
HOST - PALM VALLEY GOLF COURSE: Denver will host the 18-team field at the Palm Valley Golf Course. Located just outside of Phoenix in Goodyear, Ariz., the 18-hole layout covers 7,015 yards and is a par 71 course.
