Wildcats Begin Spring Season
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The 51st-ranked Kansas State men's golf team will begin the spring portion of the 2009-10 season in Fresno, Calif., at the Fresno State Lexus Classic. The event takes place Monday, March 8, through Tuesday, March 9, at the San Joaquin Country Club. The event tees off Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. (CT). The final round will begin at 10:00 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday with golfers teeing off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the conclusion of the tournament.
LOOK AT THE FIELD: The 15-team field includes: No. 5 Washington, No. 17 Oregon, No. 18 California, No. 30 San Diego, No. 43 Pepperdine, No. 46 Fresno State, No. 48 Michigan, No. 51 Kansas State, No. 55 Brigham Young, No. 63 UC Irvin, Cal Poly, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, St. Mary's, and San Jose State. FALL 2009 RECAP: The Wildcats had a very successful fall season placing in the top-five in five of their six events. The squad won the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate for the second straight season and is currently on pace to break the team stroke average record set by the 2008-09 team. LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats recorded its fifth top-five finish of the fall with a 9-under par 843 at the Pacific Invitational. The Cats carded a final round score of 4-under par 280 to climb up three spots from eighth to fifth at the par 71, 6,757-yard Brookside Country Club. HOST - SAN JOAQUIN COUNTRY CLUB: Fresno State will host the 16-teams at the San Joaquin Country Club. San Joaquin Country Club opened in 1961 and has played host to the PGA, NCAA, USGA Mid-Am & Trans-National Tournaments. The course's 18-hole layout is listed as a par 72 and spans 6,970 yards.
