K-State Sits in Eighth Through 36 Holes
LAKELAND, Fla. - The Kansas State men's golf team stands in eighth place after Monday's two-round score of 36-over 612 (305-307) at the Matlock Collegiate Classic. Host school and defending champion Florida Southern has the lead heading into final round play after firing a 12-over 588 on the par 72, 7,065-yard Grasslands Golf and Country Club. Head coach Tim Norris is looking for improvement out of his bunch during the final round on Tuesday. "The course played much different today than it did last year," Norris said. "The greens were really firm and challenging. We made some mistakes today, but tomorrow is a chance to show some improvement" Florida Southern's top golfer Greg Koch leads after the first two rounds at three-under 141 (69-72). Freshman Robert Streb leads K-State after his 72-75-147 (+3) performance on day one. He is currently tied for fourth with Lynn University's Keir NcNicoll. "Robert played really well," Norris said about his freshman. "We are hoping for a good round out of him tomorrow to build confidence for the rest of the spring." Senior Tyler Cummins carded back-to-back 77s as he is tied for 31st at 10-over 154. Joe Kinney, at 11-over 155, is tied for 39th. Jay Kramer and Kyle Yonke round out the Wildcat competitors at 12-over 156 (tied for 43rd) and 13-over 157 (tied for 50th), respectively. The Wildcats will conclude the Matlock Collegiate Tuesday.
