Manhattan, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team will kick off its spring season this Monday when the Wildcats travel to Katy, Texas to compete in the Rice Intercollegiate at the Meadowbrook Farms Golf Course.

The 'Cats will face tough competition in the 12-team field as they go up against 2001 Big 12 Champion Baylor and the tournament's defending champion and intrastate rival Kansas. Head coach Tim Norris, however, said the players will be focusing more on their own game rather than on the competition.

"The only competition we have right now is amongst ourselves," said Norris. "We want to see if we can step up and play well in this first tournament. How we stack up against the other teams is really not important at this point."

Making the trip for K-State will be sophomore Aaron Watkins, who led team in three out of five tournaments during the fall season, senior co-captains Matt Williams and Bryan Milberger, along with sophomores A.J. Elgert and Bryan Schweizer. Sophomore transfer Greg Douglas will compete as an individual.

The field will play 36 holes on the par-72, 7,100-yard course on Monday and finish up with 18 holes Tuesday. For up-to-date information and results on the Kansas State men's golf team visit www.k-statesports.com.
