Wildcats Open Play at St. Mary's Invitational

MONTEREY, Calif. - The Kansas State men's golf team recorded a 25-over 313 in opening-round action of the St. Mary's Invitational at the Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Course on Monday. The Wildcats were in 14th place following the opening round, and the second round was scheduled to finish late Monday night due to play being on the west coast.
Senior Ben Juffer paced the Wildcats in round one as he fired a 3-over par 75 and trailed tournament leaders Rufie Fessler (Fresno State) and Mac McClung (St. Mary's) by five shots. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native was in a tie for 22nd place heading into the second round of play.
After shining in their Wildcat debut, freshmen Matt Green and Hank Simpson got off to a slow start during Monday's opening round. Green recorded a 9-over 81, while Simpson tallied a 10-over 82 over the first 18 holes.
