The Kansas State men's golf team claimed their second team title of the season Sunday at the Wildcat Invitational, its first home tournament of the spring season. K-State posted a 36-hole team score of 610 (299-311) at the par-72, 7,525-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course.
Sophomore Bryan Schweizer led the `Cats on the day, staying steady under blustery conditions to tie for second place with a 152 (74-78). It was Schweizer's highest placing as a Wildcat and the second top-five finish of his career. Joining Schweizer in the top-10 were seniors Bryan Milberger and Matt Williams, who tied for fifth at 154, and sophomore Greg Douglas, who competed as an individual and tied for ninth at 157(78-79). Also contributing to the team score were sophomores A.J. Elgert and Aaron Watkins, who tied for 11th at 158. The highlight of Elgert's day came on the par-3, 213-yard No. 5 hole when he drained his tee shot for a hole-in-one.
Five Wildcats competed as individuals at the tournament, with Douglas' ninth-place finish leading way. Also competing were freshman Dusty King who posted a 161 to tie for 17th, junior Mark Sprecker, who tied for 19th with a 162, junior Daryn Soldan, who tied for 25th with a 166, and freshman Jonathan James, who tied for 29th with a 168.
Finishing in second to the Wildcats was Big 12 rival Nebraska with a 618 (310-308) team total. The Cornhusker's Jim Troy was top medalist at 151 (80-71). Troy's second-round 71 was the only under-par round on the day at Colbert Hills.
The Wildcats will be back in action at Colbert Hills on April 20th when they host the Oklahoma Sooners in an 18-hole dual match.
