Wildcats Tied for 14th at Wyoming Cowboy Classic
April 4, 2011
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – After completing two rounds at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, the Kansas State men’s golf team sits in a tie for 14th place with Utah at the par 70, 7,133-yard Talking Stick Golf Course.
K-State carded a 26-over par 586 after Monday’s first two rounds. During round one, the Wildcats carded a 14-over par 294, while they shot a 12-over par 292 in the second round.
“By the look from their cards, the guys have been pressing a little bit, and I think that has been the theme for almost the whole year,” said Wildcat head coach Tim Norris. “You cannot fault the effort but every whole counts equally the same on your card, so when you put added pressure on the last couple of holes, usually the results are not positive.”
Baylor currently sits atop the team leaderboard, carding a 5-under par 555, including a 7-under par 273 during the second round.
Zahkai Brown of Colorado State finished the first two rounds as the top overall performer and will look to maintain his position during Tuesday’s final round. Brown carded a 7-under par 133 after the first two rounds.
Freshman Thomas Birdsey was the top individual for the Wildcats Monday. Birdsey carded a 4-over par 144 after shooting 72’s in both the first and second round. Birdsey currently finds himself in a tie for 31st.
Smell carded a 5-over 145 during the first two rounds. Watson finished Monday at 6-over par 146, while Juffer finished the day with an 11-over par 151, five shots ahead of Yonke at 16-over 156.
“The play was pretty solid and hopefully we can get a few more putts to fall tomorrow,” Norris said. “We are still trying to take that next step. The guys are trying hard and I know that they will do their best tomorrow.”
The Wildcats will finish out the Wyoming Cowboy Classic during Tuesday’s final round, which will tee off from No.1 and No. 10 at 7:30 a.m. (MST).
