KATY, Texas - The Kansas State men's golf team slipped into a tie for seventh place at the Rice Intercollegiate Tuesday at the par-72 7100-yard, Meadowbrook Farms Golf Course. The Wildcats posted an three-day total of 895 to tie North Texas for the seventh spot. Sophomore A.J. Elgert carded his third consecutive round of 2-over-par 74 for a three-day total of 222 and tied for 13th place individually. "We basically shot the same scores that we did yesterday, but the course conditions were much better today," head coach Tim Norris said. "We didn't step up and play with the better conditions. But, overall I think this team is in better shape than they were during the fall and we just need to go home and work on a few things." Elgert and senior Bryan Milberger finished in the top 20 for the 'Cats, with Elgert placing 13th and Milberger finishing in 20th with an 8-over-par 224. Sophomore Aaron Watkins landed in a tie for 27th with 226, sophomore Bryan Schweizer tied for 41st with a 228, and senior Matt Williams tied for 50th at 232. Sophomore Greg Douglas competed as an individual and tied for 59th with a 235. The ninth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers took home the team trophy with a score of 2-under-par 862. Baylor's Adam Meyer smoked the course in the final round score of 7-under-par 65 for a total of 3-under-par 213 to put himself in a sudden-death playoff for medalist honors. Meyer then defeated Tennessee's David Skinns on the second hole of the playoff to take home the individual title. The K-State men's golf team will hit the road again in two weeks when it makes a swing through the south to the UTSA Invitational at Oak Hills Coutnry Club in San Antonio, Texas and the LSU Spring Invitational at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La.
