HEAD COACH GARY BARNETT

On the game overall...

“Not to take anything away from Kansas State, but we just took ourselves out of opportunities way too often with penalties and two blocked punts. I was pleased with how hard our guys played.”

On the two blocked punts...

“That’s on me. That’s my area. I coach that. I thought we had an answer for that and we didn’t have a good enough answer.  It wasn’t anything we hadn’t seen, we just didn’t handle it very well. Those two special team plays were huge in the game. You can’t make mistakes like that against a team like Kansas State on the road or you’re going to have trouble.”

On consistency...

“We’re just not consistent enough right now in a big game like this. It’s a horrible excuse, but we just have to work to get better at it. Kansas State was very opportunistic. They are a good team.”

On K-State not taking a knee at the end of the game...

“Before I got to Bill (Snyder), Ell Roberson came over and apologized and said he was told to take a knee and he decided to do the sneak, so that’s what Bill (Snyder) told me, so I accept that.”

On being surprised at how long Roberson and Sproles stayed in the game...

“Yes and no. If I say yes, I am a whiner. If I say no, I don’t know what I am, so pick one. It wasn’t the end of the game that was the issue. It was leading up to the last five minutes that were the issue.”

On how he felt at halftime...

“I felt great at halftime and the kids felt good. We had great possession time and we came out and kicked the ball out of bounds and gave it to them on the 35-yard line, so we immediately put ourselves in a hole. In the next series we got the punt blocked so we just put ourselves in a big hole right away.”

On Colorado’s defense...

“Often times when you are young and just coming along they feed off of the mistake instead of rallying around it. I’m not saying we did that, but you can certainly see where that could have been an issue. I thought that we had a good defensive plan. For most of the game we were able to contain the run " fairly well. I’d say the pressure today was put on by our special team mistakes. That’s what put us behind more than anything.”

On Colorado’s mistakes...

“They (K-State) did a pretty good job and made some plays when they had to. The source of our biggest problem is that we shot ourselves in the foot. We shot all of our toes off in the first half. We couldn’t afford to make anymore mistakes and we came out and did.”
