MANHATTAN, Kan. - Nine Kansas State players were honored for their play through the first six games of the 2013 campaign as Phil Steele released his Midseason All-Big 12 football teams on Wednesday.
Wide receiver Tyler Lockett, linebacker Blake Slaughter and defensive back Ty Zimmerman earned first-team honors, while offensive linemen B.J. Finney and Cornelius Lucas along with defensive end Ryan Mueller and defensive back Randall Evans were named to the second team.
Rounding out the honors for the Wildcats on the third team were quarterback Daniel Sams, offensive lineman Cody Whitehair and Lockett as a kick returner.
Lockett ranks second in the Big 12 with 6.2 receptions per game while he is fourth with 95.0 receiving yards per game. With the quick start to his junior campaign, the Tulsa, Okla., product has moved into the top-10 in school history in career all-purpose yardage and became the 17th player in school history with 1,000 career receiving yards.
Slaughter, a senior who redshirted the 2012 season, leads the team and ranks second in the Big 12 with 52 total tackles to go along with two sacks and three pass breakups. He has carded at least seven tackles in five of six games, while he has reached the 10-tackle mark on three occasions.
A native of Junction City, Kan., Zimmerman ranks second on the team with 43 tackles and picked off his 11th career pass against Louisiana and returned it 32 yards for his first-career touchdown. The senior is tied for sixth in school history in career interceptions and ranks fourth in career interception-return yards.
Following an off week, Kansas State returns to action Saturday, October 26, as the Wildcats host West Virginia in a 2:45 p.m., contest at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The game, which will be televised by FOX Sports 1, serves as the annual Homecoming game and is the celebration of the 150th year of Kansas State University.
